Frozen Zune 30

Well it's official, all 3 of my Zune's are Dead.... This is what thousands of Zune lovers are seeing at this very moment. And if they wait a little while, they'll get a completely drained unit, of which even a connection to PC won't fix. The usb connection doesn't even recognize it! The Zune boards are flooded and no official word from microsoft other than:

 from zune.net support site:
Customers with 30gb Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware.  We’re aware of the problem and are working to correct it.  Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!

Now all I get is the following picture because the unit has fully drained itself.

Frozen and now Dead Zune 30

Let's hear your opinons of what Microsoft should do to resolve. Me Personally, I'm thoroughly ticked off being that I have 2 Altec lansing speaker units, and jsut bought the new iHome Zune alarm clock for my wife for christmas! Can you say class action suit ???

Yeah- I just got the zune alarm clock/radio/docking station for Christmas too! this is such BS and I cant believe I have to either open it up and "hard" restart it or hope for a microsoft appology. I even use it as a radio in my car... how am I ever going to travel w/o it.. Im too broke to afford a stereo and my zune was my baby =( Does anyone know how to make it work? I tried resetting my clock on my computer and radio, but no go. It's a refurbished zune, so i believe no warrenty, but is it safe to actually open it up??

Any with the clock. Wonderful. Wish that the news sites reporting on the Z2k9 issue would point that out and not just focus on the 30GB. So.. now what?

>12/31/2008 2:05:43 PM >Are 8gb units affected as well, or just >the 30s? I'm hearing that it's only the 30gb, with firmware 3.0 or higher.. basically any firmware that added the clock to the system.

BTW, I forgot to sign my name. prev post: Great service out of this unit (30GB). Have enjoyed it tremendously. Purchased when they first hit the street several years ago. So THIS is what we get for launching the product. The fact that so many have suddenly developed this symptom, leads me to believe that the last update to firmware 3, must have had some embedded coding to kill the old units and drive sales and/or repairs. If I have to buy new, it WILL NOT be a Zune. They have run me off to Ipod. This is a real pisser! Where are the suits? Golfing in the islands?

Are 8gb units affected as well, or just the 30s?

patience is a virtue people. mine is frozen but i will give microsoft a fair chance to fix it before i freak out. you lived a long time before you even had a zune, a couple days won't hurt anyone.

Found two separate posts; Got it working and charging, but without sync I've got mine working with no data loss and charging via the PC, but not syncing: The best way to get your Zune hardware up and running is to take the battery out and plug it in and charge it outside of your computer (car or plug). If you can only charge your Zune via your PC and have removed the battery already, make sure to - Reset your clock (and stop Windows Time Service if you are on a domain or syncing with an NTP server) - Stop all Zune services and kill Zunelauncher.exe - Plug it in to your PC and just let it sync. Do not open the Zune software, otherwise, it will brick again! I'm happily charging my Zune right now so I can at least listen to what's on it until a solution is found. And for goodness sake's be patient! If I can at least get it going, I'm confident Microsoft will have some sort of fix! --------------------------------------------------------- I think we have figured a fix. I have a white Zune that was playing last night when I went to sleep. My wife woke up this morning and stated that it was not work. I tried the reset even the Hard reset with no luck. I told my wife that I would look at it when I got to work. When I got to work, I saw that I was not alone in what had happened to my Zune. I tried the removing the battery trick and that did not work. I did notice that it finally powered off after being drained. I tried to connect it to my system and charge, saw the charging image and then tried to reset, and nogo. Finally I reset the date on my computer to Jan 31, 2008 and then connected the Zune and it powered on just fine. I went in and tried to access the clock like someone seggested in an earlier post. I then noticed that the time on the Zune was @ 830pm. Dont know why it showed 830pm since it was playing @ 11pm. Set the clock. Since it was working now, I disconnected the Zune to see if it still worked, then reset the clock on my computer, reconnect the Zune, and it was still working. checked the clock on the Zune and it had the correct time from what I had set it for. So, as of now, My Zune is back to working just fine! Woot! Thanks to my partner in crime, Mike G. Now its up to MS to figure out what happened! More info; When I first connect the Zune to my system at work, it did not recognize it was even connecting anything. But changed the date on my system and then connected it and Found New Hardware Wizard popped up, and the Zune was working.

Personally just being on my fourth 360 is enough now MY beloved Zune30GB! I sure hope there's a good answer that doesnt involve sending these into microsoft! Its a sad day for me.
